Trinity Karate Club is both the oldest and most successful martial Arts Club in the College. We provide training for the undergrads, postgrads, graduates and the academic staff of the College and our membership continues to grow every week.

Founded in 1979 by Sensei O Connor, we practise Shotokan Karate and also place emphasis on researching the Okinawan origins of the Art. Shotokan the Japanese side to our style, places emphasis on technique, speed and all round skills. Karate is excellent for developing fitness, strength and suppleness together with the self-confidence and awareness that practising any martial art brings.

Understanding the Okinawan origins of Karate allows us to utilise the original self-defence principles and highly effective applications to the "random yet habitual acts of physical violence" faced by ordinary people in life. The Kata (forms) that we practice were specifically designed to address these very situations, by giving the practitioner a deep knowledge of the anatomically vulnerable points of the human body (Kyusho Jutsu) and of how to utilise the attacker's own aggression against them. There is a saying that anyone with the strength of a seven year old child can become an expert at Karate!

Instruction is given by Sensei O Connor (Irish representative to Kyoshi Sensei Patrick McCarthy, and founder of the IRKRS). The club caters for all abilities and always has students of all levels training at all times. From our many black belts (male and female) to our many beginners, all agree the training is second to none!
